In his remarks, Netanyahu noted the many things that Israel celebrates on its Independence Day, such as the rebirth of Jewish sovereignty, the absorption of millions of Jewish immigrants into the State of Israel, and Israel’s remarkable achievements in areas such as science, medicine, technology, agriculture, and arts.

Netanyahu noted that on its Independence Day, Israel also celebrates its democracy and the fact that throughout the entire region, “Israel is the one place that protects the rights that many in the democratic world take for granted: The right to think and worship as one pleases, the right of women and minorities to be equal members of society, and the right of citizens to be ruled by laws and not by men. In Israel, all our citizens – Jews and Arabs alike – are equal under the law.

“As we celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut,” concluded the Prime Minister, “we give thanks for 63 years of freedom and independence, and we renew our hopes for a future of security, prosperity and peace.”
