Toldot Yisrael presents Eyewitness 1948

What is Toldot Yisrael? Called by Israel's Ambassador to the US Michael Oren, “a project of paramount importance for Israel and its supporters worldwide,” Toldot Yisrael is a Jerusalem based nonprofit dedicated to recording and sharing the firsthand testimonies of the men and women who helped found the State of Israel. Over 500 video interviews have been conducted with those who were involved during the pre-State struggle and the momentous events of 1948. Toldot Yisrael’s aim is to conduct hundreds more over the next few years – while it is still possible. The footage is being developed into a website, educational material, and films that will bring authentic accounts of the founding of the State of Israel to the general public - both in Israel and the Diaspora.

Eyewitness 1948 is a short film series, produced by Toldot Yisrael and the History Channel. It is the centerpiece of an Israel Education pilot program for the US developed with The iCenter and made possible through the generous support of the Jim Joseph Foundation and others. The Eyewitness 1948 films use Toldot Yisrael’s interview footage to tell the stories of Israel’s founding through the eyes of the people who lived it.

The Volunteers: Answering the Call of History Volunteers from around the world fought in Israel's War of Independence and helped acquire weapons, army surplus, and even airplanes and aircraft carriers for the fledgling state. These are some of their stories.
