Inbal Gawai became Israel's first female bomb squad officer to join the force after completing a grueling ten month training course.

Earlier this week along with 14 men who completed the course, Police chief Yohanan Danino awarded Gawai her new insignia pin at a graduation ceremony.

Gawai, 26 served in the IDF's mixed Karkal infantry unit and decided to join the police force when she was discharged in 2006.

When asked by reporters why she chose to serve in the bomb squad she declared she was looking for a challenging and unconventional role, a place where she could realize her full potential.

The job requires full dedication but she will always be where the action is, saving lives she declared.

Gawai will begin her service in the central command's Givatayim area.
