Israel to reveal new military gear at Paris Air Show
The state-run Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) on Monday announced two weapon systems slated to make their first public appearance at the 49th Paris Air Show on June 20-26.
The Israeli pavilion at La Bourget will also feature some of the latest weapon systems and gadgetry of the country's other leading defense manufacturers, including Elbit and RAFAEL.
One IAI product the manufacturer hopes will raise interest is the AD-STAR (Air Defense and Air Traffic Control Radar), a 3- dimensional portable radar designed for air defense, early warning, and traffic-control applications.
The system emits a series of radar waves that simultaneously comb select areas and provide highly-accurate data on targets, while guiding defensive and offensive weaponry.
Defense officials and industry professionals will also get a close-up view of IAI's MLGB (Medium-weight Laser Guided Bomb), an advanced laser/GPS-guided long-range projectile with a 115 kg warhead. It is said to be highly-accurate and can be launched from light attack aircraft and fighter jets, providing aviators with rapid point-and-shoot capabilities.
The IAI booth will stack a selection of the company's other leading products, including its world-renowned unmanned drones and an assortment of missiles and high-precision munitions.
A senior IAI official said Monday that the products were designed with an eye towards affordability.
"As in every show we take part in, we'll display a selection of our systems, which are at the technological forefront," the official told Xinhua. "The systems are combat-proven and many fully-operational."
He would not comment on IAI's projections regarding the scope of orders expected to be placed with the company other than saying that "we are open to cooperation in many areas."
