Some 100 communication companies to represent Israel at world’s largest mobile industry exhibition
Israelis are on their way to conquer Barcelona: Some 100 communication companies will represent Israel in the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute (IEICI) pavilion at the world’s biggest mobile industry exhibition, Mobile World Congress (MWC), which opens in Spain in late February. The exhibition is attended by 55,000 visitors and some 1,300 companies from all over the world. For the sake of comparison, only 50 companies presented their products at the IEICI pavilion last year.
The official national pavilion at the Barcelona exhibition is being organized for the third year by the IEICI. At the same time, dozens of companies present their products and services in a more modest pavilion of the Israel Mobile and Communications Association (IMA).
The Mobile World Congress exhibition attracts leaders of the global industry. Tens of thousands of mobile network operators, policy makers and executives of the world’s communication companies are slated to attend the event and closely examine the industry’s hottest products and trends.
Israel’s national pavilion, which measures more than 400 square meters (4,305 square feet) in size, will spread over three compounds in a central and noticeable location, alongside major communication companies and other countries’ pavilions.
The pavilion will present a unique application initiative created by 40 companies. It will be screened on an interactive touch-wall and will enable visitors to personally operate applications by touching, pulling and turning.
IEICI officials and the developing companies’ representatives will demonstrate the applications according to the visitors’ interests.
Great challenge
According to Lior Konitzki, deputy director-general and head of the Technology Industries Division at the IEICI, the initiative was created on the backdrop of the growing demand to present at the national pavilion in light of the limited area given to the IEICI.“The global application market is estimated at $12 billion, and will reach some $60 billion within three years. Hundreds of Israeli companies can take part,” said Konitzki.
He added that the Israeli companies were presenting solutions to remarkable trends in the world this year: “Solutions to problems like the overflow on networks, the leap in Internet consumption due to the massive infiltration of smartphones and tablets, and more.”
The MWC exhibition is considered one of the greatest challenges of the IEICI and Israel’s commercial attachés. It follows months of in-depth examination of communication suppliers and manufacturers around the world, in a bid to locate needs that could be met by Israeli companies.
IEICI officials even coordinate and accompany the meetings between the companies’ executives and leaders of the global industry in Barcelona.
