Art Project: The Religious Woman - Stigmas and Truth
The way religious women look, our first impression of them, is often the way we judge them, perhaps because of the important role modest dress for women plays in Jewish law.
An Emunah College of Arts and Technology student decided to make a statement about that in her graduation project, which is part of the end-of-year exhibit at the Jerusalem college.

Arutz Sheva spoke to the head of the college's Graphic Arts Department, Yigal Gross.
"We feel really good about our accomplishments", he said. "We had a very successful 4 years, the girls were very successful. They worked very hard, and you can see the results in this exhibit. The girls worked independently, and then we put it all together here".
Continuing to the exhibit on women, he said: "This is the work of Hodaya Sheetreet. She calls it 'Templates', where she demonstrates how we tend to classify people and concepts by stigmatizing them."
"She makes the point that a woman may look a certain way, but actually is more spiritual and believing than she seems. On the other hand, she could seem outwardly modest, but might be very different in her behavior and perspective.
"The icons represent elements in the woman’s life: Her taste in music, her Facebook usage, the religious look of her family, and so on. The icons match the characteristics of the women in the exhibit. There is also a graph comparing a woman’s religious appearance to her actual level of observance."
Food for thought.
