The IDF chief of staff in Poland, heading an Israeli military delegation dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust. Here the chief of staff and the delegation are viewed walking into the Auschwitz concentration camp.
The IDF Chief of Staff led a delegation of IDF officers through the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. As they walk, the delegation sings 'Eli, Eli', by Hanna Szenes. Szenes was parachuted by the British Army into Yugoslavia to assist in the rescue of Jews about to be deported to Auschwitz. She was captured, imprisoned and tortured, and eventually executed by firing squad.
